Rethinking Content Consistency

You don’t need to post more. You need to know what’s worth saying | The Open Loop #3

Let’s talk about content creation consistency. The thing every business owner wants, every strategist preaches, and every content calendar promises.

We treat it like the holy grail of content marketing. But here’s the truth no one talks about enough:

Consistency only works if you’re clear on what’s worth repeating.

I recently heard from a prospect: “If I’m honest, consistently generating our own content is a weakness for our company. We need to tell our own story better and more consistently.”

That last part stuck with me.

Because maybe the real issue isn’t just posting more often.

Maybe it’s telling your story more clearly, intentionally, and, yes, more consistently, but from a place of direction, not obligation.

I also used to think the most important rule in content marketing was “just keep showing up.”

Post regularly. Stay top of mind. Be visible.

Now I think the real rule is this: show up when you have something worth saying, and say it in a way that compounds over time.

That kind of consistency looks different:

  • It’s not about hitting daily posts.
  • It’s about building trust, not just visibility.
  • It’s about repeating your core message, not just filling your calendar.

When content starts to feel like a chore, it’s often because the strategy isn’t clear. You’re probably trying to be consistent without knowing:

  1. What themes matter to your audience
  2. What stories your brand really needs to tell
  3. What channels make the most sense for your message
  4. What pace is sustainable for your team

This is the part I help clients figure out. Because once you know what you’re trying to build, consistency becomes less of a grind and more of a rhythm.

So if you’re feeling inconsistent, you may not be failing at content. Maybe you’re just still figuring out what’s worth saying on repeat.

And that’s okay. In fact, that’s the work.

If content consistency feels difficult, maybe what you need isn’t more content, but making better use of what you already have.

I recently wrote an article about how to repurpose a blog post into 7 different formats (not just to get more mileage, but to turn each piece into a real business asset).

If you’re in the “we need to post more” loop, this might be the piece that helps you step back and do less, better.
